A New Rector Has Been Found!

That's right...the Search Committee and Vestry have called a new Rector for Emmanuel parish and he has accepted.

Greetings from Central New York!

My family and I are very excited as we eagerly await joining you in Bristol! I am honored and humbled by being called to be Emmanuel's next Rector, and I will do my very best to live up to the trust your leadership has placed in me. I look forward to meeting each of you in the very near future and anticipate getting to know you well.

I have been to Bristol and Emmanuel twice now and thoroughly enjoyed both visits. Bristol is a lovely town and Emmanuel, a beautiful place of worship. Your Search Committee and Vestry welcomed me warmly and shared your hopes and dreams for ministry with passion. I am very encouraged by the leadership they demonstrated throughout the rector selection process, and I anticipate a great working relationship with the Vestry, staff, and other lay leaders.

Over the next several weeks, I will continue to hold Emmanuel Church in my prayers. I hope you will hold me and my family in yours as we say our goodbyes and pack up our belongings for the move. I look forward to beginning my ministry at Emmanuel and to getting back to the South. See you in July!

Yours in Christ,
Mark Frazier
Rector-elect

Mark William Frazier is currently Rector of St. David's Episcopal Church in DeWitt, NY. He and his wife of 20 y, Amy LB Frazier, have 4 daughters—Anna (8 y), Emilia (8 y), Evelyn (7 y), and Margaret (4 y)—and a chocolate Labrador Retriever (Kephas, 9 mo). Mark is a native of Memphis, TN, and is a graduate of The University of Tennessee--Martin, Vanderbilt University, and The School of Theology at the University of the South. Before ordination in 2001, Mark was involved in cancer research at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. He is a 'bibliomaniac,' has spent long hours perfecting the definitive gumbo recipe, wishes he could have jammed with John Coltrane, and hopes to one day hike the entire Appalachian Trail.

Welcome Frazier Family!

Vacation Bible School 2008 set for June 9-12, 6-8 p.m.

Ladies of the Evening Guild

The Ladies of the Evening (...or the "Wimin of Wednesday Afternoon"?) will meet on Wednesday, June 4 at 4:00 p.m. We will be discussing fundraising opportunities and plans for refurbishment of the Parish Hall. This will also be a chance for us to catch up with one another and make plans for the coming months. Hope to see you then!

Thanks!!!

Strategic Clean-up

The Strategic Planning Committee is spearheading a special "Clean-out, Clean Up" campaign to get our facilities ready for fall programs. The work of this committee included taking an informal inventory of our space, and found that there are many items stored throughout the building that are no longer needed to be kept on site.

If there are items at the church that belong to you and you would like to retrieve them, please do so by June 30, 2008. After that, the committee will begin "clearing out and cleaning up", in preparation for church-wide refurbishment.

For more information, please contact anyone on the committee: Matt Lavinder, Ann Christ, Lisa Tickle, Janet Jayne, Melissa Taverner, Dave Zochowski. If you need assistance moving your items, please let them know. Any items remaining after June 30 will be disposed of at the discretion of the committee.

And, as Mark Twain once wrote, "nothing is as sacred as a good cleaning."

The Latest from the Labyrinth

As you may have noticed, our Labyrinth and Sacred Garden projects remain incomplete, but not for long! We're on schedule with Billy Shelton to complete the construction of a low wall near the labyrinth. This is part of Don Newell's original plan, and will be an aesthetic and functional element at the site. Once the construction is complete, the garden will be installed. A memorial to Don as the site's designer will be a special feature of the garden, and we are grateful for his vision for this project.

The construction of the low wall and the installation of the garden should be completed soon. The labyrinth will be a delight for our parish and our community.  Stay tuned for further developments!
